Quality Used Cars are back with their first taste of music since their 2021 debut album ‘Good Days/Bad Days’. The new double single ‘Me and Damon Drinking Beers at the Grandview’ and ‘I’ve Never Felt More Alive’ is a taster from where their sophomore album is heading, picking up the same songwriting prowess front man Francis Tait has exhibited so effortlessly in the past as he continues to blend gentle alt-country with radiant Australiana. These two new singles come with an added contribution from band members Ben Leahy, Ryan Leahy, Isobel Caldwell and Hannah McKittrick.
Written about the remedial effect of reconnecting with an old friend, Me and Damon Drinking Beers at the Grandview Hotel is the perfect example of Tait’s storytelling abilities over a background of tender instrumentation paired with the constant drive of rhythmic backing vocals.
The second track I’ve Never Felt More Alive noticeably calls upon the whole band’s talents, disguising its rock ‘n’ roll core by introducing itself as an unassuming ballad, before launching into a soaring guitar solo from Ben Leahy.
‘Me And Damon Drinking Beers at the Grandview Hotel’ and ‘I’ve Never Felt More Alive’ are out on June 22 via Spoilsport Records.

Channeling the spirit of the Aussie rock greats that proceeded them like Hunters & Collectors, Paul Kelly and Midnight Oil through their uniquely Australian lyrics that draw your mind to red dust roads and gum tree bushland. Unpretentious jangly guitars and a nice blend of female and male vocals tie it together. Ed Denton

Two great tracks from a band that truly deserves significant attention. Floodlights' sound is both old and new – we've previously heard this style and delivery, but rarely with such grace and direct truthfulness. Michael Reilly
